Read your work—poetry\, fiction\, essays\, memoirs\, plays\, music\, comedy\, and more—and connect with our literary community! \n \nWe are actively cultivating a low-pressure\, welcoming environment for readers and guests of all skill levels and literary experience. We especially encourage BIPOC\, LGBTQIA2S+\, and other marginalized voices to take the mic at Works in Progress. \n \nHow it works: \n\nReading is open to all!\nYou don't have to read. Guests and audience members encouraged to attend.\nThe Zoom room is open fifteen minutes before showtime.\nSign-up is on a first-come basis and begins at check-in.\nThere is a brief intermission\, approximately 15 minutes\, between the two groupings of readers.\n\nWe encourage your feedback on how we can continue to build a safer and more engaging environment at these events! We especially encourage BIPOC\, LGBTQIA2S+\, and other marginalized voices to take the mic! \n \nDoors open at 6 pm PT for interested writers who want to come early\, carve out some sacred writing time\, and share ideas on craft and content. This open\, unstructured space is intended to create opportunities for folks to build community and enjoy some quality time writing their own works-in-progress! Anticipate complimentary donuts and coffee! \n \nOpen mic begins at 7 pm PT. \n– Reading is open to all! \n– You don’t have to read. Guests and audience members are encouraged to attend! \n– Sign-up for reading begins on-site when doors open at 6 pm and continues until the open mic begins at 7 pm. \n– Only one sign-up per person. \n– The order for the 20 reading slots will be randomly assigned. You will be notified prior to the reading of your slot. \n– Each reader has 5 minutes to read. Be mindful of your excerpt length\, and practice beforehand if you can! \n \nWorks in Progress is sustained through suggested donations from attendees. SUMMARY:Gravity From the Moon: A Night of Native Voices | A Hugo Literary Series and Snoqualmie Casino Partnership
DESCRIPTION:Hugo House is overjoyed to announce the return of Hugo Literary Series! This inspired\, new iteration of our program will continue to highlight both emerging and established artists with a shared commitment: to ignite your passion for reading and writing! \n \nIn the coming year\, Lit Series will host readings spotlighting regional writers deeply connected to place and land\, and who explore the relationship between community and the environment. This emphasis on connection with the land is a means to foster learning\, growth\, and bridge-building among us. \n \nJoin us Thursday\, November 16\, 2023\, for a special collaboration with Snoqualmie Casino celebrating regional Indigenous talent\, culture\, and spirit featuring Sasha LaPointe\, Nikki Suyama\, Iz White\, and Peter White.  \n \nThe evening will begin with a land acknowledgement from Ken Workman\, followed by readings from Sasha LaPointe and Iz White\, with music from Nikki Suyama and a ceremonial dance performed by Peter White. \n \nThere will be a brief Q&A with Sasha LaPointe\, and our friends at Elliot Bay Book Company will be on-site selling copies of her published work. \n \nDoors open at 6:30—grab a drink and connect with community members before the program begins.
