Making our classes accessible to all.
We want our classes to bring students joy, knowledge, and inspiration—not financial burden. We’re working to make them more accessible than ever by offering more scholarships and making our application process simpler.
Next Application Deadline
Scholarship applications for fall quarter 2023 have closed.
Scholarships for winter quarter 2024 classes will open in November 2023.
See more information about youth scholarship applications below.
How it Works
To apply, find a class from the upcoming quarter’s class catalog and fill out the application online by the deadline.
Scholarship applications are read by a committee that considers financial need, interest in writing, and access to instruction in the past. Priority is given to local applicants first, then out-of-state and internationally. We especially encourage applications from BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and other underrepresented voices. We grant one scholarship per student per quarter and up to two scholarships per student per year. Deferments are not permitted. Scholarship funds only cover tuition.
Book Lab, Freelance Going Pro, the Writer’s Welcome Kit, and Yearlong classes are not eligible for scholarships.
Youth Scholarships
If you would like to attend a Scribes summer camp or youth workshop, you can apply for a youth programs scholarship here.
Financial Need
One factor we consider is financial need. Below is the guide for household gross income at 400% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. We understand that flat income does not tell the whole story. If your income falls above these guidelines, you will still be considered for a scholarship based on our other guiding factors.
Household Size – Household Income
1 – $51,040 | 2 – $68,960 | 3 – $86,880 | 4 – $104,800 | 5 – $122,720 | 6 – $158,560 | 7 – $176,480
