More Questions Than Answers: When Memoir Writing Becomes the Story of the Search
What motivates many memoir writers is not just the yearning to tell their stories, but all the questions they have about their stories. Why this happened, and not that. Why their father immigrated, but his brother did not. Why their grandmother wouldn't talk about her childhood. In this three-part series of generative seminars, we'll learn from writers (such as James McBride, Lisa See, and Dani Shapiro) whose questions shaped their work, and we'll try out their techniques with in-class prompts.
